Day 4 – Thursday: How to tempt readers to join your email list
Blog readers may stop by to read one of your blog posts. But when they leave your site, you may lose them forever.
When you turn blog readers into email subscribers, you can build a relationship with them, and that’s how you earn an opportunity to sell to them.
Most bloggers tempt readers on their list with a free report, a video series, or an e-course. But readers don’t want a free report. They want to know what they’ll will learn from it. How does your free report help save money or time? How does your video series help avoid problems or make viewers happier?
You don’t have to give something away for free to “bribe” people onto your list. But it can help.
Your action points for today:
- Consider your current opt-in bonus – how will your ideal reader benefit from it?
- Re-write the copy that tempts readers onto your list. This copy can be on a landing page (e.g. http://www.enchantingmarketing.com/copyblogger/) or in your sidebar (e.g. my sidebar copy states: Get updates (it’s free) – Learn how to create engaging and seductive content. Become persuasive. And win more customers.)
- If you don’t have an opt-in bonus, consider which material you already have that you could easily turn into an opt-in bonus.
Even when you give things away for free, you still have to persuade people to give up their email address (and their time!). There’s so much free stuff out on the web, that you have to “sell” your free reports.
Show the benefit of signing up, and you’ll gain more subscribers. And that’s how you can grow your business.
