What usually helps is leaving your headlines “simmering” overnight. Have another look with fresh eyes the next day, and you probably spot one or two favorites, or even come up with a new one. I sometimes get ideas for headlines just after I wake up – when I’m not fully awake yet.
How does Upworthy “test their favorites?”
I think Upworthy built their own testing tool for their site. Buffer uses Twitter to test headlines (Here’s more about it: http://blog.bufferapp.com/how-buffer-ab-tests). There’s also a headline testing plug-in: http://www.appsumo.com/headlines/ (I want to try this some time, but haven’t yet)
