Day 2: Tuesday – Analyze Compelling Headlines
Today we reverse-engineer headlines. We look for at least 3 how to or list headlines that grab our attention and then analyze to find (a) the specific benefit and (b) the power word.
Not all how to and list headlines follow the 3-step formula, but you’ll notice that the best ones usually do.
Where should you look?
You’re free to choose your own sources. Most – but not all! – headlines on Boost Blog Traffic, Copyblogger, and Marie Forleo’s blog are good – especially if you look in the section of popular articles. But don’t limit yourself to these sources – check out social media and your own favorite blogs.
Do the headlines need to be from your own niche?
No, not at all. This is about understanding what makes headlines compelling. You can learn that from any topic.
How do you post your home work?
Reply to your own module 1 topic and post for each headline:
- The headline
- The specific benefit
- The power word
An example of how to post your homework:
Headline: 6 Proven Ways to Boost the Conversion Rates of Your Call-to-Action Buttons
I like that the benefit is super-specific: boost the conversion rates of your call-to-action buttons
The power words are proven and boost (the word boost is stronger than improve).
Yep, don’t forget to check in with your group members. You can learn from their homework, too; and you can add your favorite headlines to your swipe file.
Enchant readers. Woo customers. Win business.
