Sorry Henneke, had been travelling and am late on my homework.
Gonna start now and give it my best.
A little about the headlines I like:
Henneke, the headlines and type of copy that makes the most impact to me, is the one that comes out sincere.
I have unfortunately come across many headlines and copy that over-promise and then don’t deliver. When that happens, I get put-off. It’s happened so often now I’ve mentally reached a stage where if Headlines and body copy over-promise and over-sell, it begins to look sleazy, salesy and I mentally tune-off.
However, if the headline and copy seems like a warm fireside chat with a friend, then I’m sold.
(Sort of like the character that Al Pacino plays in Glengarry Glen Ross. However, that was sleazy too, yet he carried it off in style).
Anyhoo, I went through a bunch of headlines from marieforleo.com. Its the below few that spoke to me which I clicked to learn more. Interestingly, the Headlines that didn’t have power words (in my view) were the ones that I was attracted to.
Headline 1:
If you care too much about what people think watch this
Note:
This got me. I so care about what people think of me. Although the benefit is not stated here, the fact that the problem is stated so specifically, got me to click on it.
Power words:
No specific power words here, but still a impactful headline. Perhaps, “care too much” are power words? Not sure.
Headline 2:
Value what you do: A must watch for artists and creatives
Benefit:
It’ll teach me to value my artistic work.
Power Words:
“must watch” can be good power words. Again because it’s super specific to the problem, and that it is directly speaking to “artists and creatives” is what drew me to this post.
Headline 3:
Distracted? 6 ways to stop interruptions when you work at home
Benefit:
To stop interruptions when I work at home. Super specific.
Power words:
None.
If I were to rephrase the headline with power words, I might say:
6 sure-fire ways to stop interruptions when you work at home.
6 guaranteed ways to stop interruptions when you work at home.
6 super-easy ways to stop interruptions when you work at home.
6 rock-solid ways to stop interruptions when you work at home.
Headline 4:
3 ways to say No to people who want to pick your brain
Benefit:
Wow, finally a way I can say no, without feeling guilty. Now that’s an awesome benefit (and a pretty good headline too).
Power words:
Again, no power words. Perhaps another way to phrase it would be:
3 fool-proof ways to say No….
3 guaranteed ways to say No…
3 perfect ways to say No…
Headline 5:
Here’s why you never Follow-through (and how to fix it)
Benefit:
This is a lovely headline. Both with a Why and a How. Benefit is learning how to follow through. Ofcourse the headline could be made better perhaps by saying:
“Here’s why you never follow-through your resolutions (and 5 sure-fire ways to fix it)
Power words:
Again none.
*phew* that took a lot out of me. Okay, on to the next assignment 🙂
Keep smiling 🙂
