In your reader profile you mentioned that Fatima worries about the perception of her religion in the media and about her boy growing up in a multicultural society and forgetting his roots. Are you planning to write about these issues, too?
That’s a good question. I’m not sure of writing on this subject directly, but addressing it indirectly.
While working on the comics, I keep in mind that the content should be simple & appealing so that people of other faiths or non-religious people can understand / relate to it.
So I address Fatima’s concern by creating material (ie spiritual comics & blog posts) that she can confidently share with her friends, and thereby participating in changing the perception people have of her faith.
Similarly, the comics & stories appeal to a younger audience as well. By presenting the stories from tradition in a modern medium, she can use the stories to teach to her kids as they grow up.
I see it something like “showing” vs “telling”. Rather than telling them about solutions to these problems, I’m showing (giving) them what they can use as solutions.
